Writing with Scissors

A new book out sounds fabulous. I haven't seen it yet but I've requested it from my library. It sounds like a historic look and celebration of the scrapbook. I love the title - Writing with scissors.

Writing With Scissors, American Scrapbooks from the Civil War to the Harlem Renaissance. Ellen Gruber Garvey. Oxford University Press, 2013. Pp. 304. Softcover. $29.95 . ISBN 978-0199927692.

My mother used to keep scrapbooks. I especially liked her celebrity and travel scrapbooks. I used to love looking through her books - seeing the magazine pictures, articles, tickets, postcards and photos from her youth.

Sunday Postcard Art - Gothic Valentine

Next up ...  embrace your gothic side with the theme GOTHIC VALENTINE. With this challenge I was a little worried about what I was going to do. The first thing that came to mind is Goth - like vampires and Marilyn Manson. But, then I calmed down a bit and decided to do some rubber stamping.

First I started with some yellow and biege acrylic paint. I drizzled some red water color around. The card is 4 x 6 inches and I created a 3.5 x 5.5 inch mask to stamp a border around the edges. I just sort of kept going from there.

I saved the mask as that it had gotten all stamped up. Plus, I always use scrap paper for a first time stamp - to make sure the stamp is taking ink and what not and so ended up with two extra bits that ... I can use, mailout or whatever.

Fun Challenge ...

Sunday Postcard Art - Circles

I stumbled upon Mandy and Donna's blog "Sunday Postcard Art" and each Sunday they feature a challenge. I made the piece below for this week's  "Circles" challenge.

It's not hard for me to have some fun with this given that I feature circles in almost all my art. I am glad to have discovered the Sunday Postcard Art blog - there is some beautiful art shared there.

Here are a few others I made - I usually work on more than one thing at a time ...

The bottom piece was made using bubble wrap and paint and then ... just some other stuff.

Diane Keys Trashpo Exhibit in Elgin, Illinois

I submitted two pieces to this exhibit. Diane created this really clever display method using cork boards on wheels. The exhibit is starting at the Elgin City Hall and moving to different locations over the next few months. Diane has been blogging the pieces at her personal blog as well as at IUOMA. It's quite a production to host an exhibit and Diane's is great.
