Anything Goes Tag Along

Ha! What fun at the Tag Along challenge ... Here is my tag taking inspiration from a Trader Joe's shopping bag. I made the tag to accompany the gifts inside ...

Here is a larger view to see the shopping bag.

Anything Goes Sunday Postcard

For this week's theme "Anything Goes" of the Sunday Postcard challenge I'm showing a New Year/Year of the Horse themed card I've been working on. I just got this horse stamp from Etsy and added it to a recent inspiration from a Trader Joe's shopping bag ... Viola. Happy New Year!

Here is a tag I made hanging against the Trader Joe's shopping bag inspiration ... Pretty, eh (the shopping bag I mean)?

I bought the stamp from Pictureshow at Etsy.

Milwaukee ATC live trade & potluck

I embarked out on one of my first art adventures without my dog Snooky by attending my first live ATC trade.

I had so much fun I forgot to take photos.

When I got home I had to show Snooky the cool ATC's I'd gotten. He asked a lot of questions about each of them ...

There was also a white elephant exchange and here are a few of the cool things I came home with ...

Cool ephemera, little boxes, half of a Vietnamese dictionary. Fun stuff you'll probably see in my art very soon.

I had so much fun! Thank you to everyone at the potluck for being so friendly and welcoming to me.

Sunday Postcard Advent

I have a lot of international mailart friends who I want to send a holiday greeting to. I put together a number of similar but different holiday themed but not overly typical cards.

Collage, rubber stamping, marker and some paint. Voila! Happy Holidays.

I also made this for the Sunday Postcard group - theme: Advent.

Stampotique challenge anything goes

Stampotique design challenge for December is anything goes ... here's what I've got. A tage with a few stamps ... birds, Tim Holtz birch leaf, the dots.

Tag Along #14 Hearts

I adore making art tags - they're sort of like artist trading cards but larger and often include a ribbon or tie. I just discovered this tag along challenge blog by Mandy Chilvers. I'm so excited to participate in the challenges and share the tags I make.

My first involvement is challenge Tag Along # 14 Hearts

An inset of the above

Collage, paint, rubber stamping, heart shaped die cuts, some bling. I love making these and this will make a great gift tag.

With some of the left over supplies and inspiration ... I made another tag.

Arty Cartophiles call “Mapping 2014 Artfully”

“Mapping 2014 Artfully”

HeadStreetMapmaking is a tool, a craft for the curious. Every part of making a map appeals to me: the graphic elements of traditional cartography, the journey, and the personal story encompassed by the dashed neatlines.
This project is about making a  map of the future, in particular the year 2014. We will then reveal all the maps for a five day blog hop in January, 2014
You can approach this in many ways, and here are some simple guidelines to get you started.
  1. Pick a subject or focus
    1. Goals
    2. Travels
    3. Relationship(s)
    4. Career
    5. Health
    6. Personal Journey
    7. And on and on…
  1. Pick a medium
    1. Drawing
    2. Collage
    3. Journaling
    4. Mixed Media
    5. Textile
    6. You get the idea
Make some simple sketches of the journey of 2014. None of it has to be literal, it can be one line from here to there, or a river of lines and tributaries with lots of topography you can label.
Make the map however complex or simple you like, keeping in mind your intention for 2014. This should be a heartstring, not a masterpiece for the Smithsonian. Make it true rather than perfect. This will show.

Dates to remember
Dec 15th, last day to sign up for this project.
Jan 13-17th, blog hop of all participants. I will have the master list here to link to all your sites, you can do the same or just promote your own. This hop is called “Mapping 2014 wit
Sign up now!

Mailart 365

So, I finished my second Mailart 365 project. There was no fanfare. No confetti or champagne. Just the satisfaction of finishing another year of mailart for every day!

In started my first 365 in December of 2011 - Finished that in June of 2012 and made it up to 644 by the end of December 2012.

This year I started on the calendar 2013 in January and finished October 3rd. I sent my 365th piece to Svenja Wahl in Germany.

For this year I'm just going to keep counting. I'm currently up to 395. Katerina Nikoltsou of Greece made it to 1000 one year. I probably will stop well before that - at least if I'm only counting for the 2013 year.

It's been a great run and a great way to name my files. Maybe I'll just keep going ...

ATCs available for exchange

I've accumulated quite the stash of "extra" ATCs. Made as extras for other swaps or using up materials. These pictures look kind of dark - actual ATCs are brighter.

Random ATC fun

I've really been in an ATC mood lately ... these just happened with random bits of this and that on my table and unused from other projects ...

I'm not sure if they're done but I just wanted to post a new blog. I don't know what the time requirements are but if you don't post to your blogspot blog they delete it. I lost a whole blog that way. I mean, obviously I hadn't posted to it for a while but I did have a few dozen posts that are gone. So, here you go ... a post.

Rotating exhibit in my bathroom ...

Rotating exhibit in my bathroom ...

Two beautiful pieces from swapbot buddies. Whisperwings and Danielle Maret Williams both from Australia. So gorgeous I put them in frames and display them - in the bathroom, the busiest room in the house.

I included two photos - one without glare from the flash, the other with the glare but so you can see just how gorgeous the lucious the colors are on these postcards. Thanks Australia for giving Anne and Danielle to the world.

I just took down two from Stewart Charlebois and Mandy Fariello.

Having fun rubber stamping

I've been having some fun making ATCs and postcards with a bunny stamp I love ...
An ATC above and a note card below.
The baby bunny stamp is from Inkadinkado.

Jon Foster is making a zine. He says,

"I have no real motivation to create zine other than they’re fun to make and send out. Who doesn’t like a project?

At this point I’m trying to generate some interest in the project and see what you’d be interested in creating. If you would like, let me know what type of material you’ll be working with. Anything is acceptable as long as it came be photocopied in black and white and sent out into the world.

If you want to write haikus then great, you want to critique your shopping lists then great, if you have a non-fiction essay then great, if you have some black and white photographs then great, if you have short-short-short fiction dialogues then great, you have cartoons then great, any type of creation is acceptable and will be added to final zine."

So, I gave him a review of a recent book I read - "Wild Trees" by Richard Preston. Great book.

Here's my review.

If you want to join Jon's zine, here's some info

Busy doing nothing

Ha ha ha. I'm busy doing nothing this summer and loving it. Not really. I'm still in some swaps and exchanges here and there. I made a number of collaged postcards with my newest corgi stamp and have been sending those out. I was in a decorated envelope swap at ATCs for All. Here's what I sent to South Africa.

Next up ... a dog mailart exchange at the IUOMA ning. Some usual "I owe you" mailart to lots of people. A few swaps at the bot - ATCs, collaged portrait, putting a fish on it. Yes, I better stop doin' nothin' and start doing somethin'! LOL.

Here's the inspiration for the collage portrait ...

Bitter sweet end to a great weekend

I had a great holiday weekend. Enjoyed the 4th of July activities in my city. Had LOTS of extra time in my art area ... made a new rubber stamp and collaged my brains out, used some prints of my new stamp and well, yeah. I feel like I got a lot done. I even finished the laundry.

Sing your Heart Song

This week's Sunday Postcard theme is "Sing your heart song" as selected by Audrey from the Netherlands.

I found these two adorable corgi puppies singing their heart song - which is pretty closely aligned with my heart song. Two singing puppies. What could be sweeter?

Altered photographs

Last summer I had fun wetting a photo of Snooky and scratching, painting, drawing ... I hosted a swap at swapbot and created this for the swap ... and a few extras.

June 16 - catching up with blogging

I've been receiving and sending but not blogging everything I get. It's fun to take the time to scan, photograph and appreciate each piece that arrives but May was SUCH a busy month. I'm finally poking my head up to smell the flowers.

Check out my blog at the IUOMA ning about 22 of these pieces.

Meanwhile, here, enjoy this shape collage of many items I received from May and June.

June 8th collage fun

The above is an ATC for a challenge to use googly eyes. The most innocent of images becomes silly with googly eyes.
The above is a 5 x 7 inch postcard for a challenge to create a landscape collage using painted paper. Robin Brooks was the inspiration for this. She works in a larger size and I found it pretty challenging to do in this small, postcard size. This wasn't my first attempt but I think this looks like a landscape. No? LOL.

The above piece is an 8 x 10 inch masterboard for another challenge to ... create a masterboard using at least 3 techniques or mediums. The idea is that this can get cut up for ATCs, postcards, etc. It would likely need more work after that but ... it's a base.

Finally, a 5 x 7 inch postcard for the World Oceans Day. This is a handmade rubber stamp I made of a cuttlefish (squid). I saw a show on discovery channel or something about how due to reduced fish populations in the oceans, there are fewer predators and way more squid. Squid can hatch like 20 million babies but they're usually eaten up. With fewer predators more babies are surviving and more and more squid are reaching the surface looking for habitat. It's pretty interesting. Squid are quite vicious and violent. I think they're going to take over the world.

World Oceans Day June 8th

Tomorrow is World Oceans Day and there are all kinds of events going on to celebrate (check here for one near you)

On World Oceans Day people around the planet celebrate and honor the body of water which links us all, for what it provides humans and what it represents. Be a part of this growing global celebration!
